Brown rice dal khichdi is a nutritious dish, one pot comfort meal prepared with brown rice and lentils. An easy khichdi that makes a wholesome and delicious meal, brown rice are rich in proteins, an excellent grain choice for people with diabetes. Khichdi is a very good option if you want to cook something really fast. An easy to make recipe with simple ingredients for any time of the day.
Brown rice – 1 cup
Tur dal – 1/2 cup
Moong dal – 1/2 cup
Bay leaves – 1 or 2 no’s
Pepper corns – 1/4 tsp
Cumin – 1/4 tsp
Cinnamon – 2 small pieces
Clove – 3 to 4 no’s
Ginger garlic paste – 1/2 tsp (optional)
Onion – 1 o2 chopped
Green chilies – 2 no’s
Curry leaves – 1 spring
Coriander – 1 small bunch
Tomato – 1 medium chopped
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste
Oil to fry
Rinse dal and rice in water, drain and soak it for 30 min by adding fresh water.
Keep all ingredients ready to start. Heat a pressure pan by adding oil in it, when it is hot add bay leaves, pepper, cumin , clove and cinnamon fry until you get a fresh aroma.
Add chopped curry leaves, green chilies, curry leaves and onion fry until it turns to translucent, add ginger garlic paste, saute until raw smell evaporates from it, then add chopped tomatoes, fry until it becomes soft, add turmeric powder, stir.

Saute for a minute, add 3 and a 1/2 cup of water and salt to taste, bring it to boil.
When the mixture starts to boil, check the taste, add salt or chilly powder to adjust to your taste. close the lid of the pressure pan and cook it for 3 whistles.
When the pressure of the pan settle down by it’s own, open the lid, bring it to boil adjust to your consistency. Remove from the flame. Rest it for 5 to 6 min before you serve.
Nutritious brown rice khichdi is ready to enjoy , serve hot with papad or raita.
You can add any of your favorite veggis in preparation of khichdi.
