Carrot kosambari with moong dal is an easy salad recipe, Kosambari is a traditional south Indian vegetarian side dish. It is mix and match recipe with raw vegetables with lentil, which is very healthy and easy to make. A perfect diet recipe, it is a healthy salad which is rich in protein and fiber. 

Preparation time – 5 min

Cooking time – just seasoning

Serves – 2

Ingredients –  


Moong dal – 2 tbs

Carrot – 2 no’s

Coriander – 2  tbs chopped

Lemon juice – 1 tsp

Salt to taste

For seasoning – 

Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp

Green chilly – 1 chopped

Asafoetida – 1 pinch

Method – 

To make or to prepare Carrot kosambari/carrot salad –  

Wash and soak moong dal for 15 to 20 min in water, After soaking drain the water in it,Grate carrot and keep ready. Add it to a bowl, add chopped coriander. Heat a tadka pan by adding 1/2 tsp of oil in it, when it is hot add mustard seeds when it begin to crackle, remove from the flame add chopped green chilies and asafoitida, saute. Add this tadka to prepared mixture.


Combine together, add salt to taste. Finally add lemon juice.


Toss it well.


Carrot kosambari/ carrot salad is ready to enjoy.

Note – 

You can increase or decrease the moong dal quantity. Same way, you can use finely chopped cucumber in place of grated carrot. Lemon and salt can be adjusted as per your taste preference.

Traditionally kosambari is prepared on Rama Navami to offer God and to distribute as prasad.

To enhance the taste you can add pepper powder to prepare this recipe.
