Cluster beans or gorikai palya is a tasty curry prepared as side dish for rice sambar or rasam, cluster beans contain nutrients that help in controlling blood sugar levels in the body. There are numerous health benefits eating cluster beans. This is a easy and delicious curry prepared by adding crushed roasted peanuts which gives a unique taste and flavour to the curry.
Preparation time – 15 min
Cooking time – 5 min in pressure cooker
Serves – 4
Cluster beans/gorikai – 500 gm cut into 1 1/2 inch in length
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Onion – 1 medium chopped
Curry leaves – 2 springs
Peanut – 2 tbs
Sambar powder/red chilly powder – 2 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
jaggery – 2 tsp
Coconut – 3 tbs grated
Coriander leaves for garnishing
Oil – 2 tbs
Salt to taste
How to prepare or make Gorikai palya/cluster beans curry –
Heat a kadai add peanut and dry roast until it turns to golden brown and crisp,remove it from the flame,allow it to cool
When peanuts become cool , remove the skin /outer layer
Crush peanuts to a coarse powder and set aside.
Heat a pressure pan by adding oil in it,when oil is hot add mustard seeds,allow it to crackle add curry leaves and chopped onion stir fry
Fry onion till it turns to translucent.
Add cluster beans ,fry for a while until raw smell disappears from it.
Add sambar powder/red chilly powder ,turmeric powder , jaggery and salt to taste fry for a while.
Add 1/2 cup of water and pressure cook for 1 whistle,turn off the flame
When the cooker is cool open the lid ,bring the curry to boil until it reaches to a thick consistency .Add grated coconut mix altogether.
Add crushed peanut powder and turn of the flame.Mix once again.
Finally add chopped coriander leaves for garnishing and enjoy the dish as a side dish for rice sambar or with rasam
