Hurali kalu (Horse gram) chutney is a healthy chutney to accompany it with any south Indian breakfast dishes. Horse gram have many nutritional value and this wonderful beans is good for dieting and very much good for diabetics. It is a regional food recipe of Karnataka usually served with Ragi rotti or akki rotti’s, especially in rainy or winter season. A simple and easy to make chutney recipe, which is very healthy and tasty.
Horse gram – 3/4 cup
Coconut – 1/4 cup
Garlic – 3 pods
Dry chilies – 4 no’s (adjust to your taste)
Tamarind – 1 small piece
Jaggery – marble size ball (Optional)
Salt to taste
Heat an pan, dry roast horse gram in a medium flame until brown, it begins to pop, This is the right stage.
You can switch off the flame and leave it in the heat to get roasted. Allow it to cool.
Add all the ingredients to a mixer jar, blend it with out adding water, until all ingredients gets powdered, then add water to blend, Blend it similar to normal chutney consistency.
Healthy Hurali kalu (Horse gram) chutney is ready to enjoy.
Serve with akki rotti , ragi rotti or idli, dosa.
