Gulkand or rose petal jam is a sweet Indian delicacy. Gulkand is listed under the best Ayurvedic medicines for their enormous health benefits. Gulkand has cooling properties, powerful antioxidant and a very good rejuvenator. Gulkand helps to treat mouth ulcers, strengthens teeth and gums. A very good digestive tonic helps to improve appetite, improves digestion and corrects digestive problems. Home made Gulkand is prepared with fresh paneer rose, Damascus rose which has natural sweet fragrance which makes a delicious and flavorful Gulkand.  

Preparation time – 10 min
Cooking time – 10 min
Makes – 300 gm of gulkand

Ingredients –


Paneer rose petals/Damascus rose petals – fresh petals separated from 15 to 20 medium size roses

Red rock sugar candy/Kempu Kallu sakkare – 200 gm

Honey – 3 tbs

Rose essence – 2 drops (optional)

Method – 

To make or to prepare homemade Gulkand –

Separate rose petals, wash and leave to dry on a towel, Crush red rock into coarse powder and keep ready.


Heat a pan by adding 1/2 cup of water in it, when it is hot add crushed sugar candy into it, boil until it dissolves in water completely, Cook in a low flame until it turns to a single string in consistency,


Add rinsed and drained paneer rose petals/ Damascus rose into it, make a medium flame, saute


Cook in a low flame until rose petals becomes soft. (You can add little more water if necessary as it becomes thick once it is cooled, so add little more water and bring it to boil until petals becomes soft) The consistency of Gulkand must be medium thick. (not watery or too thick in consistency.)


Once it reaches to medium in consistency switch off the flame, add 2 drops of rose essence (optional) and honey, Stir. Allow it to cool at room temperature.


Home made instant Gulkand is ready. Transfer it to a glass bottle or to a air tight container. It can be preserved for many days. It taste best when it is consumed after 2 days.

Ingredients  –   

Bun/ bread slices

Home made Gulkand


Method – 

Slice a bun in the middle into two halves, apply/spread butter to both inner parts, apply home made Gulkand on it spread properly, cover it with the other part. Enjoy as a healthy and delicious snack.

Remove the edges of bread slices apply/spread butter on it and spread Home made Gulkand  over it for both slices of bread, overlap it and Enjoy!!!



Note – 

It is a homemade instant Gulkand recipe, which is quick and easy to make, but the best method followed from ancient times is, keeping the mixture in sunlight.
