Kshatriya chicken is a delicious Andhra style chicken recipe, It is an easy to make recipe with simple ingredients, a dry chicken recipe popularly served in Andhra restaurants. Kshatriya chicken is prepared by marinating chicken and then cooked with a freshly grounded spices which gives flavorful, tangy and tasty taste to the chicken, which can be served as a side dish or as a yummy appetizer.
Chicken drumsticks – 1 kg
For marination –
Green chilly paste – 1 – 2 tbs (adjust to your taste)
Turmeric – 1/4 tsp
Lemon juice – Juice of one lemon
To grind –
Onion – 3 medium chopped roughly
Garlic – 12 pods
Ginger – 1 inch
For seasoning –
Onion – 1 medium chopped
Green chilies – 4 – 5 no’s
Curry leaves – 2 springs (optional)
Coriander powder – 3 tsp
Cumin powder – 2 tsp
Turmeric – 1/4 tsp
Corn flour – 2 tsp
Coriander for garnishing
Oil to fry
To make or to prepare Kshatriya chicken –
Rinse chicken drumstick pieces in water, for twice or thrice. Drain the water in it. Make 2 or 3 cut on both sides of each chicken drumstick pieces, Add chicken pieces in a bowl, add green chilly paste, turmeric, salt and lemon juice mix it well and set aside for marination.
Heat oil in a pan, when it is hot add ingredients to grind and fry until onions turns to light brown . Remove it from the flame and allow the mixture to cool to grind.
Add fried ingredients in a mixer jar and grind it to a fine paste without adding water and keep ready.
After marinating, Heat a pan by adding oil in it, when it is hot add chopped chilies and saute for a while, add chopped onion and fry until translucent,
Add grounded paste and fry until oil separated from the edges.
Add all dry spice powders and combine it with the mixture.
Add marinated chicken pieces into it, mix it well, cook in a low flame without adding water, close the lid of the pan and cook until the chicken is done, Stir once or twice before it is done.
When the chicken is done, bring it to a thick in consistency.
Mix corn flour with 1/2 cup of water, as there is no lumps in it, add it on the chicken and combine, cook it for 2 – 3 min in a low flame. Remove it from the flame, rest it for 5- 6 min before you serve.
Transfer the dish to a serving dish, garnish it with chopped coriander and Enjoy Kshatriya chicken as an appetizer or as a side dish for rice or roti’s.
You can prepare this recipe with chicken drumstick or with medium chopped chicken pieces.
Add chilies to adjust to your taste and choice, also the quantity of dry spice powder, always prefer dry roasted and powdered coriander, cumin powders.
