Ladyfish fry recipe | Kane Rava fry recipe – tasty shallow fried fish, marinated with spices and coated with semolina (rava) is a Mangalorean delicacy and a must try recipe. Mangalore is very famous for its seafood delights. LadyFish extremely tasty variety of fish which is available in all seasons in Mangalore.
Ladyfish (Kane) – 1 kg
Chilli powder – 2 tbs
Turmeric – 1/2 tsp
Tamarind – marble sized ball
Asafoetida – 1/4 tsp powdered
Salt to taste
Other ingredients –
Semolina (Rava) – 1/4 cup
Rice flour – 1 tsp
Oil to shallow fry
Clean the fish make incisions on each fish for both sides. Soak tamarind in little hot water for 10 min, then squeeze and remove the waste from it, keep the juice ready.
Add chili powder, turmeric, salt asafoetida, in a bowl add tamarind water, add little more water to mix to a batter similar to dosa batter consistency.
Mix cleaned fish, toss it well with the mixture properly, keep it to marinate for 3 hrs in refrigerator. Remove it before 30 min before you cook.
Heat a shallow pan by adding 2 tbs of oil in it. Add semolina (rava) and rice flour on a plate,
Dip/apply semolina mixture to coated evenly to both side a fish,
Arrange it in the pan as it should not touch each other, cook in a medium flame for both sides cook in a medium flame so that the fish will cook properly inside otherwise if you cook in a high flame it remains raw in the middle.
Fry till the fish turns to golden brown, flip to the other side again apply oil around and fry till it is done.Continue the same for the rest.
Serve hot straight from the pan with onion slices and lemon wedges.
