Little millet Khichdi

Little millet khichdi is a nutritious dish, prepared with little millet, Dal, and vegetables. this cereal has many medicinal properties with vitamins and minerals, health benefits of millet include its ability to protect your heart health, protect yourself from diabetes, improve your digestive system and many more. Khichdi is a supercilious food and a great meal for any time of the day.

Ingredients:

Little millet – 1 cup

Moong dal – 1/2 cup

Mustard – 1/2 tsp

Cumin – 1 tsp

Curry leaves – 2 springs

Green chili – 1 or 2 chopped

Onion – 1 medium chopped

Tomato – 1/2 cup chopped

Ginger garlic paste – 1/2 tsp

Carrot – 1/2 cup chopped

Potato – 1 medium chopped

French beans – 1/2 cup

Green peas – 1/2 cup (frozen)

Chili powder – 3/4 tsp

Turmeric – 1/2 tsp

Garam masala powder – 1/4 tsp (optional)

Salt to taste

Oil to fry

 

 

Method:

Rinse little millet and Dal and keep ready. Keep all the ingredients handy.

Heat oil in a pressure cooker pan, when it is hot add mustard, allow it to sizzle then add cumin allow it to sizzle, then add ginger garlic paste, saute for few secs, now add green chili, saute.

Add onion and curry leaves fry until onion turns translucent, then add tomato fry until it become soft, add veggies ans chopped coriander, saute well.

Add chili powder and turmeric, saute

Add  3 1/2 cup of water and salt to taste, bring it to boil.

When it begins to boil add rinsed and drained millet and Dal, stir. Close the lid of the pressure cooker, cook on a low flame for 10 to 15 mins then turn off the flame.

When the pressure of the pressure cooker settles by its own, open the lid fluff it gently.

Serve Little millet khichdi hot with a dollop of Ghee/ Cucumber raita/Pickle.
