Promfret masala curry recipe


Foods made from fish are world wide popular just because of its nutritional values which are good for all, promfret masala curry is absolutely delicious curry, which i prepared with roasted and blended spices,with nice aroma, it goes perfect for any week day. It is quick and easy to prepare recipe which can be served as an appetizer or as a side dish.

Preparation time – 10 min

Cooking time – 10 min

Serves – 4

Ingredients –  

Promfret fish slices – 800 gms

Curry leaves – 2 springs

Lemon juice – 1 tsp


Ghee – 2 tsp

To prepare a paste/ to grind

Red chilies (Two types of chilies byadgi and short chillies) – 5 each

Cumin – 1/4 tsp

Coriander – 1 tsp

Pepper – 6 to 7 corns

Clove – 2 no’s

Cinnamon – single stick

Onion – 2 no’s  chopped

Garlic – 10 cloves chopped

Ghee – 2 tsp

Procedure to make or to prepare promfret fish masala curry – 

Rinse fish slices in water drain the water in it and set aside.

Heat a pan by adding ghee in it, when it is hot fry all the ingredients to light brown, remove and set aside.


Allow the ingredients to become cool.


Heat the same pan by adding ghee to fry chopped onion to brown.


Add all the fried ingredients to a mixer jar and blend it to a fine paste by adding little water, when it is done add salt and 1 tsp of lemon juice, mix properly and keep ready.


Heat a pan by adding 2 tsp of ghee add curry leaves and chopped garlic, saute


Add grounded paste into it and saute until oil separates from it, make a low flame cover the lid for 3 min.


When raw smell evaporates from it fully, add/ arrange fish slices over it.


Cook in a low flame for 3 to 4 min by cover the lid of the pan.


Flip the fish slices gently to cook other side of the fish for 2 min.

Remove it from the flame, garnish it with chopped coriander. Enjoy the dish as a side dish or as an appetizer.
