Silver fish Manchurian recipe











Silver fish Manchurian is a yummy starter, it is also called fish chilly, which taste yummy, cannot stop eating one or two… it is just irresistible in taste. Silver fish are the fish to convert someone to eating fish, which has no fishy taste or smell. Young or old will love it. Easy to make recipe with simple ingredients, do try and enjoy an an yummy appetizer or as a side dish for fried rice or with noodles.

Preparation time – 30 min

Marination time – 2-3 hrs

Cooking time – 30 min

Serves – 4

Ingredients –

To marinade –


Silver fish – 750 gm (40 no’s)

Turmeric – 1/4 tsp

Chilly powder – 3/4 tsp

Coriander powder – 3/4 tsp

Garam masala powder – 1/2 tsp

Cumin powder – 1/4 tsp

Green chilly paste – 1 tsp

Ginger garlic paste – 2 tsp

Corn flour – 3 tbs

Egg – 1

Method –

For marination –

Clean and rinse fish in running water, drain the water in it add salt and turmeric powder mix properly, then add all the spice powders and ginger garlic paste as shown above. Break one egg and add it to the fish mixture, combine together, finally add cornflour into it and toss it well and set aside for minimum 2 to 3 hr in refrigerator.


Remove marinated fish from the refrigerator, and set aside. Heat oil in a kadai to deep fry, when it is hot, add marinated fish one by one and  fry it until it turns to golden brown and crisp,


When fish turns to golden brown, remove it with a slotted spoon and drain the oil in it.


Place them on a kitchen towel to absorb excess oil in it. Continue the same for remaining fish in one or two batches and keep ready.

Ingredients –

To prepare Manchurian/ fish chilly –  


Onion – 1 medium (diced and separated)

Capsicum – 1 cup diced

Spring onion – 1 cup chopped

Garlic – 1 tbs chopped

Green chilies – 2 chopped

Soy sauce – 2 tsp

Chilly sauce – 2 tsp

Coriander – 1/2 cup chopped

Method –

Heat a shallow pan by adding oil in it, when it is hot add garlic, saute until you get a fresh aroma.


Add chopped green chilies fry for a while, add diced onion fry until it turns to golden brown and translucent, add diced capsicum saute for a while, add chopped spring onion and saute. Add sauce and a pinch of salt, mix it and add fried silver fish into it and toss it well.


Switch off the flame, add  chopped coriander .


Transfer the dish to a serving plate and Enjoy.
