Drumstick Raita I Nuggekai Pachadi

Drumstick Raita is a healthy side dish prepared with the boiled drumsticks, a comforting side dish made with simple ingredients. Drumstick is a protein-packed, vitamin-rich veggie. Every part of this tree is a nutritional powerhouse in itself. Do try this healthy and delicious side dish and I am sure you will like it. 


Drumstick – 3 to 4 no’s

Mustard – 1/4 Tsp

Cumin – 1/4 Tsp

Urad dal – 1/4 tsp

Chana dal – 1/4 tsp

Green chili –  2 no’s chopped

Curry leaves – 1 spring

Asafoetida – 1 pinch optional

Ginger – 1/2 Tsp grated

Coconut – 1/4 cup

Coriander – small bunch chopped

Curd/yogurt – 200 ml

Salt to taste

Oil – 1 tbs


Cut Drumstick into lengthy pieces, boil it for 5 to 6 min.


Take care not to cook until mushy. Once it is cooked remove and allow it to cool.


When it is warm enough remove the seeds (optional) in it, discard the flesh of each veggie with a spoon or knife, then blend it to a coarse paste and keep ready.


Keep all the ingredients handy. Heat a pan with oil, when it is hot sizzle mustard and cumin, then add chopped green chilies, grated ginger saute for few secs until you get a nice aroma and then add onion fry until it turns translucent.


Now add Blended Drumstick mixture, mix it well add salt to taste. Turn off the flame. Allow the mixture to cool.


Ensure the mixture is cooled completely then add curd, coconut, and coriander, Toss it well.


Nutritious and Yummy Drumstick Pachadi is ready to Enjoy.

Note –

You can make use of residual Drumstick stock to make soups, rasam, sambar/ dal.

Adding onion in preparation is optional, it tastes good without onions too.

Add curd when the mixture becomes cool completely.
